SURPRISING FACTS ABOUT YOUR BRAIN

The human brain is made of 100 billions of neurons that control everything from your movement to your personality.

1.The brain can’t feel pain:- It interprets pain signals sent to it, but it does not feel pain.

It is a myth that humans only use 10 percent of our brain. We actually use all of it. We’re even using more than 10 percent when we sleep.

2.Intelligence :- is determined by the number of connections between brain cells, called synapses, not by the size of the brain itself

An explosion of synapse formation occurs at about week 12 of a pregnancy The human brain gets smaller as we get older. This usually happens sometime after middle age.

3. Alcohol kills brain cells :- Moderate alcohol use doesn’t kill brain cells. However, sustained drinking can damage the ends of neurons, called dendrites.

This damage can affect the ability for neurons to convey messages to each other which may result in vision changes, loss of muscle control and impaired memory.

4. The brain declines as you get older :- Though some cognitive functions do decline as you get older, plenty of your mental skills actually improve with age.

Vocabulary, comprehension, conflict resolution and emotional regulation are just a few areas in which older brains can perform better than their younger counterparts.

5. Meditation :- Has been shown to increase gray matter in the brain.

Gray matter contains neuron cell bodies. Meditation and relaxation techniques have been shown to improve short-term memory in people of all ages, from people in their
20s to the elderly

6. Exercise :- Exercising your cognitive skills by playing brain games is a fun and effective way to boost your memory. Crosswords, word-recall games, Tetris and even mobile apps dedicated to memory training are excellent ways to strengthen memory.

7. Cocoa :- Cocoa is not only delicious but also nutritious, providing a powerful dose of antioxidants called flavonoids. Research suggests flavonoids are particularly beneficial to the brain.

They may help stimulate the growth of blood vessels and neurons and increase blood flow in parts of the brain involved with memory.

To get the most benefit out of chocolate, choose dark chocolate with a cocoa content of 70% cacoa or higher.

Brain receives about 30 percent of the blood being pumped by your heart.

8.When we wake up the brain produces enough electricity to power a small light bulb :- the brain works fast, so fast that it’s speedier than the world’s greatest computer. The information going to your brain from your arms and legs travels at 150 miles per hour.

9. Brain’s storage capacity is virtually unlimited:-There’s no such thing as knowing too much or learning so much that you can’t retain any more .Your brain doesn’t get used up like the data storage in your computer or smartphone. There is endless brain power. Lack of sleep can affect your brain’s ability to create more memories.

10. Short-term memory lasts 20 to 30 seconds:- Short term memory does not have a large capacity like sensory memory but holds information longer for several seconds or minutes. The final storage is the long term memory which has a very large capacity and is capable of holding information as long as one’s lifetime.
